Can We Talk: Bioindustrial Manufacturing?

About the Event

BioMADE, a Manufacturing Innovation Institute, is focused on advancing bioindustrial manufacturing. In a nutshell, bioindustrial manufacturing means using microorganisms (sometimes genetically engineered, sometimes not) to manufacture the chemicals and materials that we use to drive our economy. This includes biofuels, bioplastics, polymers, fabrics, cosmetics, food ingredients, and more. BioMADE was established with a $87M award from the Department of Defense and is currently headquartered in St. Paul, MN. In our first year of operation, we have grown to include 100 members including industry, academia, and non-profit organizations. In this talk, Michael J Smanski

McKnight Land Grant Professor

Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics

Biotechnology Institute

University of Minnesota

will introduce the audience to BioMADE and describe how the institute is working to advance the domestic bioeconomy.
